Ramos expects to miss 4-8 weeks with broken hand

On DL for third time in as many seasons, Nats catcher tries to stay upbeat

WASHINGTON -- Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos spoke to local media Tuesday, a little over a week after he broke the hamate bone in his left hand. Ramos said he expects to miss four to eight weeks and will start rehabbing in about a week.

Ramos hasn't had much luck over the past three years. He missed most of the 2012 season with an injury to his right knee and he missed half of the 2013 campaign because of hamstring issues. Now he has to deal with the hand issue.

Ramos' latest injury occurred on Opening Day during the top of the seventh inning when Ramos was facing Mets right-hander Dillon Gee. Ramos struck out looking and knew he had to get out of the game. Ramos had been dealing with pain in the hand since the last week of Spring Training.

"That was very hard. I was very frustrated," Ramos said. "A lot of people here had that same surgery, so that made me feel a little bit better. A lot of guys get that surgery and they tell me it's a good recovery and that made me feel a little bit good. It's very hard for me in my career to be ... on DL three years in a row. But I'm still here. I'm working hard. Hopefully [I'll] be good soon.

"It's very hard to go to your bed and think three years in a row getting hurt, three years in a row on the DL. I just put everything in God's hands. Everything happens for one reason. I have to wait. I have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully that was the last one. I have to keep working and I will do it."
