No break in Werth's left wrist; status uncertain

SAN DIEGO -- Nationals left fielder Jayson Werth left Friday night's 10-0 win over the Padres before the bottom of the second after being hit on the left wrist by a pitch thrown by San Diego right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne in the top of the inning.

With the Nationals leading, 4-0, Werth came to the plate with two outs and was hit on the left wrist on a 3-2 pitch. Werth dropped to the ground for a couple of minutes before going to first base.

After the half-inning ended, Werth was seen talking to third-base coach Bobby Hensley and then manager Matt Williams before he came out of the game. Tyler Moore replaced Werth in left field.

X-rays of Worth's wrist were negative, according to Williams.

"We'll see how he responds [Saturday]," Williams said. "He took a pretty good one on the wrist."

Werth, who declined to comment, has had problems with his left wrist over the years. In 2012, he broke it while making a diving catch of a liner off the bat of then-Phillies infielder Placido Polanco and missed 12 weeks.

As a member of the Dodgers, he broke it and missed the entire 2006 season.
