Baker puts forth lineup for first spring game

Harper, Zimmerman, Rendon will not debut until Thursday

March 2nd, 2016

VIERA, Fla. -- Dusty Baker will manage his first game for the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon as they face the Rays in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Here is the starting lineup for the Nationals:
Trea Turner - SS
Wilmer Difo - 2B
Matt den Dekker - RF
Tyler Moore - 1B
Michael Taylor - CF
Chris Heisey - LF
Jason Martinson - 3B
Jose Lobaton - C
Spencer Kieboom - DH
Tanner Roark - P
Big names such as Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon will not play until Thursday against the Mets at Space Coast Stadium. Baker said left fielder Jayson Werth may not play until the weekend, though he added that there is nothing wrong with Werth.
"I wish we had another week's worth of practice. I would feel much better because every day that you train, there is less chance to get injured," Baker said. "This is a … volatile time for hamstrings and shoulders. The good thing down here, though, the weather is pretty good compared to Arizona. It's really pretty cool in Arizona."

Baker is pleased that Zimmerman hasn't had setbacks with his left foot. Zimmerman -- who missed more than a month last year with plantar fasciitis -- has been able to take batting and fielding practice without any problems, but has been limited when it comes to running the bases. There isn't any rush to get him to full speed, however. Baker said he simply wants to make sure Zimmerman is ready by Opening Day.
"I'm impressed that he is running as much as he has, hitting and fielding his position," Baker said. "We have a month. Our goal is to have him ready by Opening Day with no setbacks."
