Nats summon Severino as Wieters goes on DL

No. 20 prospect joins team in Atlanta; catcher out with left oblique strain

April 2nd, 2018

ATLANTA -- Nationals catcher Matt Wieters went on the 10-day disabled list with a mild left oblique strain, president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo announced Monday. In a corresponding move, the team recalled , the club's No. 20 prospect as ranked by MLB Pipeline.
The Nats had already been playing with a short bench, and they did not want to be caught without a backup catcher.
Wieters did not play in Sunday's series finale in Cincinnati as part of a scheduled day off to get catcher into a game early in the season so he does not sit for too long. Wieters did play catcher the first two games of the year and went 1-for-7 at the plate with a pair of walks. He finished both games and did not appear to be hampered in any way.
