Cole optioned to Triple-A Syracuse

WASHINGTON -- With right-hander Joe Ross added to the 25-man roster, right-hander A.J. Cole was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse before Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Cole, who is considered the second-best prospect in the Nationals organization according to MLB.com, has appeared in three games -- two of them in relief -- and allowed six runs in 9 1/3 innings.

"I want him to continue to progress, just continue throwing," manager Matt Williams said. "Last time out, he had a little issue with command of the strike zone. He is going to work on that. I want him to be ready if that call comes again."
