Nationals place C Wilson Ramos on 15-day disabled list, recall C Sandy Leon from Syracuse

  The Washington Nationals today placed catcher Wilson Ramos on the 15-Day Disabled List (right hamstring strain) and recalled catcher Sandy Leon from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

             Leon went 8-for-44 (.182) with a double, a home run (April 14 at Miami off Kevin Slowey) and three RBI in 13 games during a six-week span with the Nationals earlier this season. Defensively, Leon threw out two of four would-be basestealers and fashioned a 2.52 catchers' ERA (30 ER/107.0 IP). When starting behind the plate this season, Washington is 7-5.

             The 25 year-old Leon, a .213 career hitter at the big league level, was batting .294 with five doubles and six RBI in 15 games for the Chiefs at the time of the promotion. He signed with the Nationals as a non-drafted free agent, out of a Venezuelan tryout camp in attended by Mike Rizzo, in January of 2007.

             Ramos, 26, is hitting .261 with one home run and 11 RBI in 24 games for Washington in 2014.
