Nationals place RHP Ross Ohlendorf on 15-Day Disabled List

The Washington Nationals today placed right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-Day DL, retroactive to August 1, with right shoulder inflammation and recalled left-handed pitcher Xavier Cedeno from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Cedeno, 26, joins the Nationals for a third stint since being claimed off waivers from the Astros on April 23.

As a member of the Nationals, Cedeno has worked 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out one, working around a hit and a walk, in two appearances (June 9 vs. Minnesota, Day Game; July 13 at Colorado). He earned a hold by retiring the only batter he faced (Tyler Colvin) in Washington's 5-4 victory on July 13 at Coors Field.

Including five appearances with the Astros, Cedeno owns a 9.39 ERA (8 ER/7.2 IP) in seven games this season.

Cedeno is 0-1 with seven holds, one save (June 18, 2012 vs. Kansas City) and a 5.80 ERA (26 ER/40.1 IP) in 54 relief appearances spanning three seasons (2011-13) with Houston and Washington. He has successfully stranded 35 of 50 inherited baserunners (70%) during his big league career.

The 30 year-old Ohlendorf is 2-0 with one hold (July 4 vs. Milwaukee) and a 1.85 ERA (7 ER/34.0 IP) in 10 games/2 starts as a long reliever/spot starter for Washington this season.
