Nationals recall No. 3 prospect Taylor, put Souza on DL

ATLANTA -- Outfield prospect Michael Taylor joined the Nationals on Sunday, as Stephen Souza Jr. was placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder contusion.

The Nationals have been hit with injuries lately. Outfielder Jayson Werth has been dealing with shoulder and ankle issues, while Souza suffered his injury banging into the right-field wall on Friday.

Taylor, 23, is considered by MLB.com to be the third-best prospect in the Nationals' farm system. He is having the best season of his professional career, hitting a combined .315 with 22 home runs and 63 RBIs for Triple-A Syracuse and Double A-Harrisburg. Taylor is also considered one of the best defensive outfielders in the system.

Projections indicate Taylor could be the starting center fielder for the Nationals as early as 2015.
