The Washington Nationals recalled outfielder Michael A. Taylor and infielder/outfielder Trea Turner from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. Washington placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 7) with a left rib cage strain and optioned right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito to Triple-A Syracuse. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
 
Taylor, 25, rejoins the Nationals after a brief stint in the Minor Leagues. He was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on July 4 and appeared in one game for the Chiefs, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. In 60 Major League games this season, Taylor is hitting .225 with 10 doubles, six home runs, 12 RBI, 10 walks, 10 stolen bases and 25 runs scored.
 
Turner, 23, embarks on his second stint with the Nationals in 2016. He was recalled on June 3 and appeared in two games for Washington, going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk before being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on June 5. In 83 games for Syracuse, Turner is hitting .302 with 22 doubles, eight triples, six homers, 33 RBI, 37 walks, 25 stolen bases and 61 runs scored. He leads International League hitters in runs scored (61), triples, (8), doubles (T1st, 22), and stolen bases (T1st, 25), and also ranks in batting average (7th, .302), slugging percentage (9th, .471), and on-base percentage (9th, .370).
 
The Nationals' No. 2 prospect, according to Baseball America, and the No. 9 prospect in all of baseball entering the 2016 season, Turner was recently named an International League All-Star.
 
Zimmerman, 31, was hitting .221 with 13 doubles, 12 homers, 38 RBI, 24 walks and 44 runs scored prior to being placed on the disabled list.
 
Giolito, 21, was selected from Double-A Harrisburg on June 28 and went 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA (4 ER/7.2 IP) in two starts for Washington. The No. 1 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB.com and ESPN.com, he made his Major League debut on June 28 at Nationals Park, tossing 4.0 innings of rain-interrupted, one-hit ball as the Nationals topped the Mets, 5-0.
