Nationals recall RHP Taylor Jordan
The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Taylor Jordan on Sunday and optioned right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole to Triple-A Syracuse. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Jordan, 26, is 1-2 with a 2.14 ERA (10 ER/42.0 IP) in seven starts for Triple-A Syracuse. Opposing batters have hit just .208 against him and he has fanned 26 while walking just eight. Jordan ranks among International League pitchers in walks and hits per innings pitched (3rd, 0.98) and ERA (6th, 2.14).
Jordan returns for his second stint with the Nationals in 2015. He was recalled on April 15 but was returned to Triple-A Syracuse the following day.
In 14 career Major League games spanning the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the sinker-baller is 1-6 with a 4.31 ERA. A ninth-round selection in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Jordan made his Major League debut on June 29, 2013 at Citi Field versus the New York Mets.
Working out the bullpen in his second MLB stint of 2015, Cole allowed just two earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched (2.45 ERA). He converted his first career save on May 15 at San Diego, and on May 23 vs. Philadelphia he struck out seven batters in 4.1 innings of work.
