Nationals release catcher Snyder

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Nationals have released catcher Chris Snyder, who could have opted out of his contract Wednesday.

Going into Spring Training, it looked like Snyder had a solid chance to be the backup catcher behind Wilson Ramos, but the Nationals acquired catcher Jose Lobaton from the Rays last month. Lobaton will start the season as the backup catcher.

Snyder has had a productive Spring Training for Washington, going 5-for-17 (.294) with one home run and five RBIs. Snyder was with the Nats last Spring Training before opting out of his contract and signing a Minor League deal with the Angels.
