Source: Nats sign Gutierrez to Minors deal

Veteran reliever pitched in Majors last season with Giants

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals and veteran right-hander Juan Gutierrez have agreed to a Minor League deal that is pending a physical, a source confirmed to MLB.com on Sunday afternoon. The club had not announced the signing, which was first reported by MLB Trade Rumors.

Gutierrez signed a Minor League deal with the Phillies on June 8 and was released Saturday after appearing in 18 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 4-1 record and 2.88 ERA. He began the season with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate and was 0-1 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 games (one start).

The 32-year-old spent last season in the Giants' bullpen, posting a 1-2 record and 3.96 ERA in 61 appearances. Gutierrez has played in six Major League seasons with five organizations. He's appeared in 264 games with a 7-17 record and 4.49 ERA.
