WASHINGTON -- The prognosis seemed encouraging for right-hander Stephen Strasburg, who was diagnosed with a nerve impingement that has been alleviated after his meeting with team doctors. Although the Nationals did not specify a location for the impingement, Strasburg cited an issue with his forearm that forced his early exit on Sunday afternoon in Arizona.
Strasburg threw off flat ground prior to Tuesday's game against the Brewers, a normal progression he would make in advance of his next start. And if he can avoid a setback, he should be expected to take his next turn in the rotation, which would be Saturday night against the Rockies.
"I talked to him, he's feeling good," manager Dusty Baker said. "Whenever something happens, especially when you have a history, everybody gets a little alarmed. But he's not alarmed. He doesn't look alarmed. He actually looks very at ease and at peace, actually."
Strasburg did not require an MRI after his start Sunday, from which he was pulled after just 51 pitches in two innings. He had been feeling the issue in his forearm since the end of his previous start against the Reds, but rather than continue to pitch through it, he wanted to nip it in the bud. Washington said the move was precautionary.

Baker did not say for sure that Strasburg would be able to avoid the disabled list. However, the signs on Tuesday were encouraging.
"Right now, they say he's progressing," Baker said. "We have a few days to see if he will make his next start or not. That's about all I can tell you."
Still, the Nationals are setting up a potential contingency plan in case Strasburg is not ready to start. Right-hander Erick Fedde, the club's No. 3 prospect as rated by MLBPipeline.com, did not start either game of Triple-A Syracuse's doubleheader on Tuesday, and he could be lined up for that start. If not, perhaps right-handers Jacob Turner or A.J. Cole could be promoted to take Strasburg's turn through the rotation.
No update on Turner's X-Rays
Nationals shortstop Trea Turner did not have an update on his fractured right wrist after he had X-rays taken earlier Tuesday.

"I'm in the dark with you guys," Turner told reporters.
Turner returned from the team's Spring Training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., to Washington, and he was able to participate in some pregame activities. He was still wearing a brace, but he stretched with the team and fielded grounders at shortstop before handing the ball to Jose Lobaton to make the throws to first base.
Although the Nationals have never revealed an official timetable for Turner's injury, his target date seems to be around mid-August.

• Left-hander Enny Romero said the back spasms that forced him to leave Sunday's game have subsided. Romero saw a chiropractor Monday, and he was expected to be available for Tuesday's game.
• Outfielders Chris Heisey (groin) and Michael Taylor (oblique) tested their injuries with some light running along the warning track during batting practice.
