SAN DIEGO -- Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth and shortstop Trea Turner will begin rehab assignments with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
Werth has been out since June 3 with a broken left foot. He was batting .262/.367/.446 with eight home runs before the injury.
Turner sustained a non-displaced fracture in his right wrist June 29, when Cubs reliever Pedro Strop's 96-mph fastball drilled him. Turner, the runner-up for National League Rookie of the Year last season, is hitting .279/.324/.422 with seven home runs. He ranks third in the Majors with 35 steals.

"We're excited to get them back," manager Dusty Baker said Sunday. "You want them back when they're ready, versus trying to force them back early. I'm sure they're champing at the bit because they've been out a long, long while. They're not used to being out that long."
Including Werth and Turner, the Nationals have 12 players on the disabled list. Five of them are outfielders, including the projected starting outfield of Werth, Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper.
In an effort to alleviate the situation, the Nationals have used Adam Lind, who hadn't played the outfield since 2010, in left and acquired Howie Kendrick from Philadelphia. Center fielders Michael A. Taylor and Brian Goodwin have traded time on the disabled list, while Turner's initial replacement at shortstop, Stephen Drew, is shelved with an abdominal strain.
Wilmer Difo and rookie Adrian Sanchez have primarily manned shortstop since Drew's injury, but Turner and Werth's returns give Baker reason for optimism.
"Slowly, but surely," Baker said, "we're getting whole."
