Strasburg among Nationals on rebound for '16?

February 9th, 2016

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals need to stay healthy in 2016 if they want to return to the postseason. Last season, 17 players went on the disabled list -- mostly for lengthy periods.
MLB.com takes a look at Nationals players who could be "On the rebound" in 2016. Four of the six players listed below missed time in '15 because of injuries.
C Wilson Ramos: He stayed healthy throughout the season. Privately, though, some people in the organization worried about Ramos' game-calling skills. He also had problems catching throws from the outfield. To make matters worse, Ramos had his worst season as a hitter. This is a key year for Ramos because he is eligible for free agency after the '16 season.

3B Anthony Rendon: He was the club's Most Valuable Player in 2014. In '15, Rendon was arguably the most fragile player. He played in only 80 games because of a knee sprain and quad sprain. Rendon spent most of his time at second base. With Yunel Escobar traded to the Angels, Rendon will be the everyday third baseman.

RHP Tanner Roark: He lost his spot in the rotation after the Nationals acquired Max Scherzer. Roark never complained, but he ended up having his worst season in Washington. With Jordan Zimmermann and Doug Fister no longer on the team, Roark has a chance to earn back his rotation spot during Spring Training.
RHP Stephen Strasburg: He was injury prone for most of the first half of the season. Once Strasburg came back from his oblique injury, it was like watching the rookie who blew away the Pirates during his Major League debut in 2010. It will be interesting to see if the Nats sign him to a long-term deal. Strasburg is eligible for free agency after the 2016 season.
LF Jayson Werth: He had to go on the disabled list twice because of shoulder and wrist injuries. Werth ended up having his worst all-around season as a member of the Nationals. At 36, Werth believes he is far from done. He will be in the middle of the batting order when the season starts in April.

1B Ryan Zimmerman: He hasn't played a full season since 2013 because of injuries. Last year, Zimmerman played fewer than 100 games for the second straight season because of foot and oblique problems. When healthy, he can carry a team for a while. Last year, Zimmerman drove in 73 runs in 95 games.
