Strasburg throws 'positive' bullpen session
Nationals righty's next likely step is to make rehab start as he recovers from oblique strain
PITTSBURGH -- Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg (left oblique strain) threw a three-inning simulated game on Friday at PNC Park and looked good, according to manager Matt Williams.
The manager said Strasburg, who went on the DL on July 5, tossed 51 pitches and could have thrown more.
Assuming everything checks out health-wise in the coming days, Strasburg's next step will be a rehab start, likely four innings and 65-70 pitches.
"He was optimistic about it from the time he went to the bullpen to warm up," Williams said. "Good positive step."
The 27-year-old is 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 13 starts this season.
