Trio of injured stars nearing return to Nationals
Zimmerman, Rendon in Baltimore with club, working out; Werth doing outfield drills in Florida
BALTIMORE -- The Nationals currently have eight players on the disabled list. Three of them -- Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth -- are showing signs of returning to the field.
Zimmerman (plantar fasciitis) and Rendon (left quad strain) traveled with the Nationals to Baltimore, and both were seen working out on the field before Friday's series opener vs. the Orioles -- taking grounders and participating in batting practice.
As for Werth, he went to the Spring Training facility in Viera, Fla., and is doing outfield drills. Werth, who had two small fractures in his left wrist, is already swinging a fungo bat without any problems.
"Jayson is in Florida," manager Matt Williams said. "He did extensive outfield work today, which is good. He is continuing to swing a light bat to get going. [Werth, Rendon and Zimmerman] are going, and we hope that it's quick and that there's no more setbacks."
