The NCAA Tournament's opening weekend continued Saturday, the second day of games in regional action. With the 2016 First-Year Player Draft scheduled for next week, here's a look at some notable Tournament performances from college prospects ranked in MLBPipeline.com's Top 200.
Gainesville Regional
• A.J. Puk, LHP, Florida (No. 4): Puk has a chance of becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the Draft, but he didn't pitch like it against Connecticut. He allowed a monster home run in the first inning and -- after a short recovery that included striking out the side in the fourth -- fell apart in the fifth. Puk was charged with five runs (four earned) in only 4 1/3 innings, with no walks and five strikeouts.
• Anthony Kay, LHP, Connecticut (No. 43): Kay got the ball against Puk and top national seed Florida and, although he outlasted Puk, he was also roughed up. The Gators tagged Kay for five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out three.
• Peter Alonso, 1B, Florida (No. 65): Alonso continues to crush his way through the tournament after returning from a broken bone in his left hand. He blasted his third home run of the regional and finished 2-for-5, including the two-run shot.
• Connor Justus, SS, Georgia Tech (No. 131): Justus went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored batting at the top of the Georgia Tech lineup, as the Yellow Jackets eliminated Bethune-Cookman.
Louisville Regional
• Corey Ray, OF, Louisville (No. 6): Ray's team cruised to a 15-3 win, but their star prospect was one of the only ones to really miss out on the action. Ray only chipped in one hit in four at-bats, with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.
• Sean Murphy, C, Wright State (No. 84): Murphy had a big game in Wright State's 10-3 win over Western Michigan, going 2-for-3 with a triple -- his fourth of the year -- two walks, an RBI and a run scored.
• Will Smith, C, Louisville (No. 110): Smith went 2-for-3 before he was lifted in the Louisville blowout, with a walk, a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
• Nick Solak, 2B, Louisville (No. 147): Solak reached base four times for Louisville, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs scored.
• Blake Tiberi, 3B, Louisville (No. 185): Tiberi was part of Louisville's offensive eruption, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the Cardinals' win.
Coral Gables Regional
• Zack Collins, C, Miami (No. 14): Collins had a rough go of it Saturday, going 0-for-5 at the plate with three strikeouts in Miami's 4-3 win in 11 innings over Long Beach State.
Nashville Regional
• Bryan Reynolds, OF, Vanderbilt (No. 23): Reynolds knocked in a two-RBI single and walked as part of a 1-for-3 day at the plate, but the Commodores were eliminated in a 9-8 loss to Washington.
Charlottesville Regional
• Connor Jones, RHP, Virginia (No. 21): Jones wasn't at his sharpest against East Carolina, allowing nine hits in 5 1/3 innings, though he held the Pirates to three runs (two earned) and left with a lead. He walked one and struck out three.
• Matt Thaiss, C, Virginia (No. 35): Thaiss only had one hit in four at-bats on Saturday, but it was a two-run double that gave Virginia a 2-1 lead early on, although the defending national champion Cavaliers were upset by East Carolina after they allowed five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Oxford Regional
• J.B. Woodman, CF, Ole Miss (No. 83): Woodman hit an RBI double as part of a 1-for-4 day, but also struck out twice in the Rebels' 6-5 elimination loss to the Green Wave.
• Jake Rogers, C, Tulane (No. 87): Rogers had a big day to carry Tulane to an upset of regional host Mississippi. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and, more importantly, the go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning.
College Station Regional
• Nick Banks, OF, Texas A&M (No. 101): Banks had just one of Texas A&M's staggering 24 hits against Wake Forest on Saturday, but it was a big one: A bases-clearing double that brought home three runs in the Aggies' 22-2 romp over the Demon Deacons.
• Brigham Hill, RHP, Texas A&M (No. 130): While the Aggies raged on offense, Hill was a steadying force on the mound as he allowed just two runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out 10 Wake Forest batters and earned the victory.
• Boomer White, 3B, Texas A&M (No. 159): White was locked in at the plate (then again, most everyone for A&M was Saturday night), going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer as part of a 4-RBI night.
• Ryan Hendrix, RHP, Texas A&M (No. 163): Hendrix entered with an 18-run lead and made quick work of Wake Forest, tossing a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a strikeout.
Clemson Regional
• Garrett Williams, LHP, Oklahoma State (No. 154): Williams came in to pitch a scoreless eighth inning in relief, striking out two of the three batters he faced in OSU's 12-2 victory.
Columbia Regional
• Braden Webb, RHP, South Carolina (No. 103): Webb started the Gamecocks off on the right foot, allowing one unearned run over the first three innings and striking out five in South Carolina's eventual 4-2 victory over Duke.
