Yost thrilled to see Royals reach 2 million fans

KANSAS CITY -- The fact that the Royals topped the 2 million mark in attendance on Friday night for the first time since 1991 brought a smile to manager Ned Yost's face.

"I think it's great," he said. "I saw the same thing in Atlanta, same thing in Milwaukee. You know you're in a great baseball town, so if you give them something exciting, this is what you get. That happens in great baseball towns.

"I remember telling [then Brewers general manager] Doug [Melvin] what a great baseball town Milwaukee was, and he was like, 'We'll never get to 3 million fans.' Then we got there three years in a row.

"It's fun. It's fun for everyone -- the players, the fans -- everyone enjoys it. We love the support this city gives us. Everyone feeds off it."

And it's not just at home that Yost notices the support.

"We're getting more fans on the road, too," he said. "That excites everyone."

There was a time when the Royals wouldn't play well in front of large crowds at home.

"Now they crave it," he said. "That's just something you learn, how to use that energy."
