Mets top O's behind stellar Bartolo
NEW YORK -- Bartolo Colon struck out nine over 7 2/3 innings to help the Mets halt a two-game skid and top the Orioles, 3-2, Tuesday at Citi Field.
The 41-year-old Colon again defied and dazzled, scattering six hits and walking none. Colon's lone mistake resulted in Manny Machado's solo home run in the seventh inning. The Mets backed Colon with a three-run fourth.
"He's been remarkable," Mets manager Terry Collins said of Colon.

New York entered Tuesday in an 18-inning offensive drought following two consecutive shutouts. The Mets managed seven hits off Orioles starter Bud Norris, with Kevin Plawecki's two-run double serving as the major blow. Daniel Murphy and Wilmer Flores also drove in and scored runs for New York.
"We haven't scored lately, and we all know it," said Collins. "Tonight we came up with a big inning, and it made a big difference."
Flores converted all three chances in his return to shortstop following his weekend benching.
Chris Davis added a solo homer off Jeurys Familia in the ninth. It was the first run allowed in his last nine appearances for Familia, who recovered to collect his Major League-leading 11th save.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

Class of center field: Whenever Juan Lagares makes a great catch, his teammates call it "Juan doing Juan things." Well, Juan did another Juan thing Tuesday, robbing Everth Cabrera with a sprawling catch in the top of the fifth. Lagares' play was dramatic, with the center fielder lunging, avoiding collision and appearing to injure himself before staying in the game.

Late power comes up short: Machado homered in the eighth inning, while Davis sent the first pitch he saw from Familia over the fence for his sixth blast of the year.

"I've seen him throw on his video, and we talked about him a little today," Davis said of Familia. "I know he's got an electric fastball. Like I said, in that situation, you're just trying to get a pitch up that you can drive and try to put a good swing on."
Norris rebounds: The righty retired 11 straight before exiting, managing to go seven innings after allowing a trio of runs in the fourth. Norris struck out four in the 92-pitch outing.

"It was good to get through seven, obviously had the sloppier inning there which was the ballgame, know I got to make some better pitches there," Norris said. "The slider I threw down the line [to Flores], that was a mistake he hit. But I felt good, I'm going to keep competing and get better." More >
JONES FLASHES THE LEATHER
Adam Jones, who is batting .396 on the season, made a pair of outstanding grabs at the wall -- in the fifth and seventh innings -- to take away extra-base hits and help Norris' cause.

"There's nobody playing better all around as Adam is," O's manager Buck Showalter said. "I'm biased, but both sides of the ball, a lot of energy. And he's one of the bigger reasons we were in that ballgame tonight."

Mets: New York sends Jacob deGrom to the mound with the righty looking to halt a two-game losing streak. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year has allowed nine earned runs over his last two starts after surrendering just two through his first 19 1/3 innings this season.
