News & Notes About the A's Upcoming Homestand

OAKLAND - On Friday, June 26, the Oakland A's open a 10-game homestand against the Kansas City Royals, Colorado Rockies, and Seattle Mariners. Highlights of the homestand include three giveaways, an Independence Day Eve fireworks show, and Military Appreciation Day.

The first giveaway of the homestand is during Turn-Back-The-Clock Day on Saturday, June 27, when 20,000 fans will walk away with a "Charlie O." Throwback T-Shirt presented by ROSS. The following afternoon, 15,000 fans will receive a Billy Butler "Country Breakfast" Bowl presented by XFINITY. On Sunday, July 5, 20,000 fans will get a Tote Bag presented by MLB Network.

During the Independence Day weekend, the A's will honor the military with the "Salute to Armed Forces" Fireworks Night on Friday, July 3, followed by Military Appreciation Day at the 1:05 p.m. matinee on the Fourth of July.

Promotions & Special Events

Turn-Back-The-Clock Day/Charlie O. T-Shirt Giveaway: On Saturday, June 27, 20,000 fans will receive a Charlie O. T-Shirt, presented by ROSS, as part of 1965 Turn-Back-The-Clock Day. The A's will be wearing 1965 uniforms, Charlie O. the Mule will make an appearance, and Campy Campaneris and Blue Moon Odom will throw out the ceremonial first pitches.

Country Breakfast Bowl Giveaway: On Sunday, June 28, 15,000 fans will receive a Billy Butler "Country Breakfast" Bowl, presented by XFINITY. The bowl pays homage to A's designated hitter Billy Butler's signature nickname.

Salute to Armed Forces Fireworks Night: The A's annual Independence Day Eve fireworks show will salute the United States military on Friday, July 3. Veterans will be on hand to throw out ceremonial first pitches, and fans can stick around after the game to watch the fireworks from the outfield grass (on-field capacity is limited).

Military Appreciation Day: On July 4, the A's will have all five branches of the Armed Forces represented at the 1:05 p.m. game against the Mariners: the Navy singing the National Anthem; Air Force for Color Guard; Army for first pitch; and Marines & Coast Guard unfurling a large flag on the field. The A's are also working with the Freedom Alliance Gifts From Home program and asking fans to donate various items that can be sent to troops overseas. These items include toiletries, magazines, socks, and other supplies. A's Players' Wives and Girlfriends will be collecting items at Section 120 from when the opening of the ballpark until the third inning. Every fan that donates an item will receive an autographed Sean Doolittle Photo Card and a camouflage A's button, while supplies last.

Tote Bag Giveaway, presented by MLB Network: On Sunday, July 5, 20,000 fans will receive an Tote Bag, presented by MLB Network. The functional bag is great for the grocery store, gym, work, or the pool.

Sport Clips Charity Cuts: From July 2-4, Sport Clips will be on site providing haircuts to fans in exchange for donations to Freedom Alliance and the Wounded Warrior Project. The haircuts will be provided in Section 236 in left field of the O.co Coliseum during the games on July 2-4.

 

Community Relations

Breast Cancer Awareness Day Fundraising Table: At each game throughout the homestand, fans will have the opportunity to purchase Breast Cancer Awareness Day pins, caps and necklaces with proceeds benefitting breast cancer education, research and awareness. Also, once again the A's will be raffling off a custom-made autographed quilt; raffle tickets for the quilt are $5 each. The fundraising table will be set up behind section 120.

Green Stampede Homework Club: On select games throughout the season, elementary school students will visit O.co Coliseum to receive help with their homework from tutors and aids. An A's player will visit and sign autographs for the students as a way to congratulate them for their hard work. After the students have finished their homework, they are able to sit in the stands and watch the game.

A's Community Fund Silent Auctions: Every Saturday and Sunday home game (and other select games), the A's Community Fund hosts a silent auction featuring signed and unsigned A's memorabilia as well as game-used items. The silent auctions are located in the A's fan center behind section 120 and end with the last out in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Chevron Baseball Clinic: On Tuesday, June 30, Chevron and the A's will host 100 children from the Richmond Police Activities League for a two-hour clinic at the Coliseum from noon to 2 p.m. Instructors include Ron Washington, Willie McGee, Vida Blue, Michael Felder, and Zachary Babitt, with a special appearance by former A's manager Tony LaRussa and a meet-and-greet with a current A's player. One of the clinic stations will feature STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) exhibits to teach the children the science behind the game of baseball.

Little A's: On June 28, July 1, and July 5, as part of the Little A's program, deserving youth and their chaperones of non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to attend an A's game free of charge. In addition to a game ticket, each child receives a Bank of America souvenir and child-admission pass to the Oakland Zoo. The Little A's program is presented by Bank of America and supported by the Oakland Zoo and Clorox.

Take the Field with the A's: The Take the Field with the A's program gives youth baseball and softball teams the chance to live out their Major League dreams. On Sundays throughout the season, youth players from a local you baseball or softball team will join Oakland A's players on the field during the National Anthem. Each participant receives an autographed baseball and t-shirt, courtesy of Wells Fargo.

Food Bank Wednesdays: During select Wednesday home games in June, July, August and September, A's fans can donate five cans of food or $5 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank at Gates C, D, and the BART Plaza. Each fan that contributes receives a 2-for-1 plaza level ticket voucher for a future A's game.
