First came Ahmed's error. With runners on first and third, he fielded a grounder, but while trying to nab the runner at second, he threw wide of second baseman Jean Segura.
"It just kind of slipped off my fingertips and I threw it high and wide," Ahmed said. "Just one of those plays, made a bad throw. Rubby [De La Rosa] was pitching good and we just made some mistakes defensively. A ball that I usually make nine out of 10, or 10 out of 10 times, the throw sailed on me. I'd like to think I make that play the next time and help Rubby out."
Corey Seager then hit a grounder to Segura, who fired to Ahmed at second for one out and Ahmed's throw back to first was in time for the double play, but the ball popped out of Goldschmidt's glove.
"I just dropped the ball," said Goldschmidt. "It was just an error on my part. Unfortunately it cost us a run and possibly the game, but hopefully it won't happen next time. We expect to make those, especially mine. Nick's was tough. That was the difference, they didn't make any mistakes on defense that I remember and we made a couple."
