PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Rays made their second roster cut of the spring on Saturday afternoon. Headlining the moves were infielder Nick Franklin and catcher Luke Maile.
Franklin and Maile were optioned to Minor League camp.
• Spring: Tickets | Ballpark | 40-man roster | NRIs
"Nick did a really nice job," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "He came in and swung the bat well ... We saw the player we were confident we were getting from the trade. It was important for him to have a good spring, and he did. Now, he needs to get down there and play. I still think consistent at-bats will help him a lot.
"As far as Maile, we really like what he brings. The pitchers like throwing to him. That's not an easy thing to do, be that Triple-A guy, and I think everybody would say they're totally comfortable throwing to him. He did a good job, and he's made some adjustments to his approach at the plate. We want him to kind of maintain that. But both of them had good camps."
Other players reassigned to Minor League camp include right-handers Ryan Garton, Parker Markel, and Neil Wagner along with left-hander Jonny Venters. First baseman Kyle Roller was also reassigned.

Franklin will still make the trip to Cuba with the team on Sunday.
The Rays now have 43 players left in camp.
