SAN FRANCISCO -- Nick Hundley's offensive prowess accented the Giants' desire to sign him as a free agent last offseason. That became easy to remember Saturday, when he drove in a season-high three runs and went 3-for-4 in San Francisco's 6-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
However, Hundley's hitting potential might have been easy to forget Friday night, when he struck out three times in four at-bats in the Giants' 2-0 loss.
Hundley's second start in a row, a rare treat for a backup catcher, set up his reversal of fortune. His presence enabled Buster Posey, who played first base Friday, to receive a complete day off.
"That's my job, to drive in runs and help us win," Hundley said. "Yesterday I didn't do a very good job of that. But that's the game. You make adjustments, you continually grind and you come back at it. Thankfully I was back in there today and didn't have to sit on that day yesterday for very long."
Hundley sought advice Saturday from hitting coach Hensley Meulens.
"We made some really good adjustments," Hundley said. "He had a good idea for me, and I had a good thought on top of that."

Careful viewers of Hundley's performance Friday might have noted that his was not an entirely lost evening. He drove a Jaime Garcia pitch to deep right-center field in the one at-bat when he made contact.
That demonstrated Hundley's power, which was much more evident Saturday when his two-run homer in the second inning off Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz opened the scoring. It was the first round-tripper of the season for Hundley, who reached double figures in homers in three of the previous four seasons.
"It's about time, I guess, right?" Hundley said jokingly. "It's good to get that first one out of the way."
Hundley gave the Giants an early lead, which has been an unusual luxury for them this season. It also enabled them to entertain the notion they could handle Foltynewicz, who beat them twice last season. This time, Foltynewicz yielded five runs and seven hits in four innings.
"Our at-bats today were outstanding against a guy with really good stuff," Hundley said. "He's a guy who can carry a 97, 98 mile-an-hour fastball the whole game."
Hundley added a run-scoring single in the eighth inning, completing an evening in which he lifted his average from .228 to .253.
"He really, I think, has had some good at-bats," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "He's had some tough luck. It was good to see him get off the goose egg, as far as home runs. You like him up there with men on base."
