Nick Swisher announced Friday that he is retiring from Major League Baseball. The 36-year-old right fielder and first baseman played 12 seasons for the A's, White Sox, Yankees, Indians and Braves.
Swisher hit .249/.351/.447 for his career, with 245 home runs. He was a member of the 2009 World Series champion Yankees, and was an All-Star with New York in '10. Swisher announced his retirement on The Players' Tribune.
After being released by the Braves last March, Swisher signed a Minor League deal to return to the Yankees. He played in 55 games with the Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .255. He was released in July.
Swisher wrote that he will stay connected to the game as a studio analyst for FOX Sports' baseball coverage, beginning this season.
Swisher was the 16th overall selection in the 2002 Draft out of Ohio State University, and made his big league debut two seasons later with the A's.
