LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers will promote Nick Tepesch from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start Friday night's game in Pittsburgh.
Tepesch will be taking the spot that Mike Bolsinger had until he was optioned back to Oklahoma City after his start of 2 2/3 innings on Saturday.
Tepesch is not on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding move will need to be made to the 40-man and 25-man rosters.
The 27-year-old right-hander opened the season with Texas' Triple-A Round Rock affiliate and opted out on June 4 to join the Dodgers at Triple-A. His combined numbers in the Minor Leagues this year are 7-2 with a 3.66 ERA. He started for the Rangers at times in 2013 and '14, going 9-17 with a 4.56 ERA. He missed the entire 2015 season with elbow issues.
The Dodgers are forced to promote the non-roster pitcher because of earlier injuries to starters Hyun-Jin Ryu, Brandon McCarthy, Brett Anderson, Alex Wood, Brandon Beachy, Frankie Montas and Jose DeLeon.
Ross Stripling is not available, because he was throttled back to limit innings two years after Tommy John surgery. Former top prospect Zach Lee would have been a candidate, but management soured on him after one big league start last year, and he was traded last weekend to Seattle for Triple-A infielder Chris Taylor.
