Delmonico day to day with bruised right quad

CHICAGO -- Nicky Delmonico left Wednesday afternoon's 6-5 loss to the Pirates at Guaranteed Rate Field in the fifth inning with a bruised right quad after the White Sox left fielder collided with first baseman Josh Bell on a single to end the third. Delmonico's soft liner went against the shift, but shortstop Jordy Mercer would hustle to nab it and fire home to catch Jose Abreu at the plate.

"A little charlie horse," said White Sox manager Rick Renteria of Delmonico's injury. "With Bell at first, they knocked knee to thigh [with Delmonico's right leg getting injured], just below the quad, above the knee. They worked on it between innings, and when he came in it was stiff, so I made a change."

The White Sox listed Delmonico, who is hitting .240 with one home run and six RBIs, as day to day and have Thursday's off-day for him to recover. Leury Garcia moved from second base to left field in Delmonico's absence. Jose Rondon took over at second base.

Garcia was replaced by Trayce Thompson in the top of the eighth inning as a manager's decision. Renteria explained the move as Garcia not giving the full hustle expected on each and every White Sox play during his bunt ground out to Bell in the bottom of the seventh.
