CINCINNATI -- It could be some time before the Indians reveal a timetable for outfielder Michael Brantley's return to game action. Cleveland is being intentionally vague with his comeback schedule, because the club does not believe a firm target date is necessary right now.
"There's no timetable listed, because there isn't one," Indians manager Terry Francona said on Wednesday. "It's completely on how he feels. Between Michael and the trainers and myself, we'll get together and we'll walk through this thing."
Brantley, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with inflammation in his right shoulder, met with Dr. Craig Morgan on Tuesday to have his arm re-examined. Morgan -- the surgeon who repaired Brantley's labral tear on Nov. 9 -- identified an impingement and gave the outfielder an anti-inflammatory injection during the checkup in Wilmington, Del.
Francona noted that Brantley would likely be shut down for 5-7 days before potentially resuming hitting activities.

"There was nothing that was found that was irregular," Francona said. "We'll let that shot work and then, from there, we're just going to get him back in a way that we feel like we [can] keep him back. ... I don't want to say we're going to be not aggressive, because I think we will, but I think we certainly want to make sure that, when he comes back, we give him a chance to stay back."
Brantley opened the season on the DL and then hit .231 (9-for-39) with two doubles, seven RBIs and six strikeouts in 11 games after being activated on April 25. The outfielder opened his season with a 4-for-24 cold spell before breaking out with a 4-for-5 showing against the Tigers on May 5. Brantley went 1-for-10 in his three games after that performance, and did not appear in a game after May 9 due to the lingering discomfort.
Francona was asked if Brantley returned too soon after surgery.
"No, no," Francona said. "I just think that sometimes things don't work the way you want them to. I really don't [think he came back too early]. I think that, good players, they try hard. He felt pretty good."
