Arenado, Tulo contenders for All-Star spots

PHOENIX -- Sunday's announcement of the National League All-Star starters was not big news in the Rockies' clubhouse, after Sunday's 6-4 victory over the D-backs. But third baseman Nolan Arenado and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will have All-Star thoughts to occupy them on Monday's day off.

Arenado, with Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in his first two years in the Majors and a power surge in his third, could be worthy of inclusion as a reserve. Tulowitzki, a four-time All-Star, has batted .398 (47-for-118) since May 29 and also could make it.

The reserves, as selected by NL players, coaches and managers, as well as NL manager Bruce Bochy's picks will be announced Monday.

Arenado, who sat out Sunday's game but entered the day leading the Majors with 68 RBIs and has 24 home runs, recently credited the experience he has gained for putting him in All-Star consideration.

"Experience has helped me," Arenado said. "I've played in some intense places, like San Francisco. Hopefully, I'm just learning."

Tulowitzki started slowly and didn't garner anywhere near the fan votes he had last year, when he led NL players. For him, any result is a positive.

"I'd love to go and it would be an honor, but also if I'm not selected it'll be a good time for me to rest, gather some stuff that's going on and get fresh for the second half," Tulowitzki said. "I haven't had a rest during All-Star week for a while now. I don't want one, but at the same time if I do have one I'll look at it as I'll be fresh."

Second baseman DJ LeMahieu, hitting .298 and coming off his first Gold Glove; closer John Axford, who earned his 14th save in 15 tries Sunday; catcher Nick Hundley, hitting .296 in his first year with the Rockies; and center fielder Charlie Blackmon, who went to the game last year and his batting .274 with 11 home runs from the leadoff position, also are possibilities.

On Monday at 5 p.m. ET, the All-Star reserves, pitchers and Final Vote candidates will be announced on the Esurance All-Star Selection Show on ESPN. Immediately following the show, fans can return to MLB.com to begin voting to select the final player for each League's 34-man roster via the 2015 Esurance All-Star Game Final Vote. Fans can cast their votes from a list of five players from each league until 4 p.m. ET on Friday, July 10.

And the voting doesn't end there. During the Midsummer Classic in Cincinnati on Tuesday, July 14, fans can once again visit MLB.com to submit their choice for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award. Voting exclusively at MLB.com, online and via their mobile devices in the 2015 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, the fans' collective voice will represent 20 percent of the overall vote that determines the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.

MLB.TV Premium subscribers will be able to live stream the All-Star Game via MLB.TV through FOX's participating video providers.
