O's promote Reimold before series finale
Left fielder tallies two hits, including solo homer as Orioles fall to Blue Jays
TORONTO -- The Orioles selected the contract of outfielder Nolan Reimold on Sunday prior to their 10-4 loss in the series finale against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. He played left field and went 2-for-4 with a single and a solo homer from the No. 8 spot in the lineup.
"I've had opportunities to play. You have to capitalize on the chances when you get them; that's what I'm gonna do," said Reimold, who was designated for assignment and later outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk in late August. "Just got to make the best of it when you're in there and do the best in the role you're given."
Reimold hit .227 with two home runs and eight RBIs in his first 39 games for the Orioles this season. He went 4-for-22 in eight games with Norfolk after he was outrighted.
The 31-year-old is in his seventh Major League season and sixth with the Orioles. After splitting 2014 with the Blue Jays and D-backs, he returned to Baltimore via free agency in the offseason.
"We still think he's only gonna get better. He's still young in games played-wise. I wouldn't close the book on Nolan," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "He's had quite a journey."
• Catcher Matt Wieters was not in the starting lineup for the second day in a row after he jammed his left wrist on an awkward defensive play at first base in the series opener on Friday. X-rays on the wrist showed no damage, but he was still sore Sunday. Showalter wouldn't comment on Wieters' availability off the bench, but he said the 29-year-old was feeling better.
• On this day in 1995, Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. played in his 2,131st consecutive game, breaking Lou Gehrig's record. He went 2-for-4 and homered for the second game in a row as the O's beat the Angels, 4-2. When the game became official in the middle of the fifth inning, Ripken ran a lap around the field at Camden Yards to salute the fans.
