Mazara named Rangers' top rookie

ARLINGTON -- Outfielder has been selected as the Rangers' Rookie of the Year for the 2016 season by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, the club announced on Twitter on Friday.
Mazara, who was called up to the Major Leagues on April 10, played in 145 games for the Rangers and batted .266 with 20 home runs, 64 RBIs and a .419 slugging percentage. He was the American League Rookie of the Month for both April and May.

Mazara will be honored at the 2017 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Awards Dinner, which takes place on Friday, Jan. 20, at Gilley's Dallas. Tickets for the dinner are now on sale at www.texasrangers.com/awards. Net proceeds benefit the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. CT.

• The Rangers have re-signed utility player Alex Burg and right-handed pitchers Dario Beltre, Austin Bibens-Dirkx, and David Perez to Minor League contracts for 2017. They were all Minor League free agents.
• Texas has signed Minor League free-agent outfielder Matt Lipka, catcher Robert Lucido and infielder Jason Martinson to Minor League contracts.
• The Rangers have acquired Minor League pitcher James Dykstra from the White Sox for cash considerations. He pitched at Double-A Frisco this past season.
• Eric McMahon has been promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coordinator/Triple-A Round Rock strength and conditioning coach after six seasons as the strength and conditioning coach at Frisco. McMahon will assist in coordinating personalized strength and conditioning programs throughout the organization, in addition to his duties at Round Rock.
