Now healthy, Sanchez recalled from Fresno

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants regained an integral member of last year's championship team Thursday by recalling catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Fresno.

Manager Bruce Bochy wasted no time in re-indoctrinating Sanchez, who started and batted seventh in the series finale against Milwaukee.

A strained right shoulder bothered Sanchez through much of the season. He hit .231 (9-for-39) with three RBIs in 26 games earlier this year for the Giants before going on the disabled list. After being reinstated, Sanchez was optioned to Fresno, where he hit .271 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 32 games.

"I feel strong -- 100 percent," said Sanchez, 23. "But I have to keep doing my exercises and treatment. I don't want to get hurt again."

The switch-hitting Sanchez provided handy offense last year for San Francisco, hitting .280 in 74 games.

To clear roster room for Sanchez, the Giants designated catcher Guillermo Quiroz for assignment. Quiroz hit .186 with one home run and six RBIs in 43 games, including 19 starts.

"It's not easy to see him go," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Quiroz, who made the Opening Day squad as a non-roster player. "I talked to him last night and thanked him for everything."
