The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed outfielder Gregory Polanco on the 10-day disabled list (retro to May 15) with a left hamstring strain. To take Polanco's place on the 25-man active roster, outfielder Danny Ortiz has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ortiz was hitting .253 (24-for-95) with four doubles and three RBI in 27 games with Indianapolis at the time of his promotion back to the big leagues.

This is Ortiz' second stint with the Pirates this season (also April 29-30). He made his Major League debut on April 29 in Miami and played the final three innings of that game in right field.

Ortiz will wear uniform #69.
