Chicago White Sox first baseman José Abreu has been named American League Player of the Week for the period of May 22-28.
Abreu, 30, batted .452 (14-31) with three doubles, two home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.194 OPS over seven games last week. He hit his 100th career home run on May 23 at Arizona and matched his career high with four hits on May 24 against the Diamondbacks.
Abreu is hitting .296 (58-196) with 10 homers, 28 RBI and 32 runs scored in 49 games this season. Over his last 33 games, he owns a .346 (47-136) average with all 10 of his homers, 22 RBI, 29 runs scored and a .640 slugging percentage.
It is the fourth career weekly honor for Abreu, who also was the most recent White Sox player to win the award (September 14-20, 2015).
