The Salvation Army and Milwaukee Brewers are teaming up to host the annual Feed The Kids Summer Meals Program Kick Off on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at the Sausage Haus at Miller Park. Over 70 Salvation Army volunteers and 70 Brewers staff members, players and wives will line up to prepare 1,500 sack lunches for children living in Milwaukee's poorest neighborhoods.

"The Feed The Kids program is a critical need in our community. There are thousands of children who rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year and when school ends many would go hungry without the help of The Salvation Army's mobile feeding program," said Major Steve Merritt, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Each sack lunch contains one turkey or roast beef sandwich, a piece of fruit, a milk, a bag of snacks and a bag of chips.

"Brewers Community Foundation has four focused areas of interest: health, education, recreation and basic needs," said Cecelia Gore, Executive Director of Brewers Community Foundation. "Food security, particularly for children, assures an opportunity for the basis of a quality life. We are happy to partner with the Salvation Army throughout the year."

The Salvation Army's Feed The Kids summer meals program kicked off in 1990 and runs for 10 weeks each summer. In 2016 The Salvation Army served 62,861 meals through the Feed The Kids program. The Feed The Kids program has provided more than 2 million meals to hungry children since 1990.
