The Texas Rangers today announced that first baseman Mike Napoli will be sent to Double-A Frisco on injury rehab assignment effective tonight.
In addition, the team announced that left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels will be assigned to Frisco on rehab assignment Friday and will start for the RoughRiders that night against San Antonio. He is expected to throw 55-60 pitches in the outing.
Napoli has been on the 10-day disabled list since June 4 with a lower back strain. He is batting .192 with 11 homers and 25 RBI in 51 games for Texas this season.
Hamels has been on the DL since sustaining a right oblique strain while warming up prior to his scheduled start on May 2 at Houston. The left-hander is 2-0, 3.03 in five starts for Texas in 2017.
Outfielder Carlos Gomez will play in his second game for Frisco on rehab assignment tonight after going 0-for-3 while playing center field on Wednesday. Gomez went on the 10-day DL on May 15 with a right hamstring strain.
