Padres Alumni to Play U.S. Navy All-Stars

The San Diego Padres today announced a Padres Alumni vs. U.S. Navy All-Stars softball game to take place Friday, June 23 on Destroyer Field #4 at Naval Base San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. with notable Padres Alumni participants to include Randy Jones, Garry Templeton, Steve Finley, Heath Bell, Tony Gwynn Jr., Archi Cianfrocco and many more. The U.S. Navy All-Stars will be comprised of a team of 14 sailors from various commands stationed onboard Naval Base San Diego.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. with notable Padres Alumni participants to include Randy Jones, Garry Templeton, Steve Finley, Heath Bell, Tony Gwynn Jr., Archi Cianfrocco and many more. The U.S. Navy All-Stars will be comprised of a team of 14 sailors from various commands stationed onboard Naval Base San Diego.
"We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to compete against some of the nation's finest", said former CY Young Award winner and current Executive Director of Padres Alumni, Randy Jones. "This group of former Padres look forward to representing the organization and continuing its long-standing support of our military community."
"Naval Base San Diego has a long history of support with the San Diego Padres," said Capt. Roy Love, Naval Base San Diego's commanding officer. "We are excited to host the Padres Alumni team onboard for a friendly competition."
Rules for the six-inning game will include the use of a designated hitter, a pitch ceiling of 10 feet and a five-run maximum per inning. Each team will be led by an Honorary Manager with the Padres Alumni being managed by former Padres manager and Korean War Veteran, Roger Craig. The U.S. Navy All-Stars will be managed by Navy-Command Master Chief Matt Ruane. Padres broadcaster Jesse Agler will also be on-hand to provide live play-by-play commentary of the game. Sailors on base, along with their families, will be treated to food, kids activities, giveaways, live entertainment and a meet and greet with current Padres players, as well as members of the Padres Alumni team. The event is closed to the public and only open to active duty sailors and their families.
