A's restructure coaching staff

The Oakland A's today named longtime organizational manager Steve Scarsone as the club's acting third base coach and current third base coach Chip Hale as the club's acting bench coach. Mark Kotsay, who had been serving as the club's bench coach, has taken a leave of absence.

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's today named longtime organizational manager Steve Scarsone as the club's acting third base coach and current third base coach Chip Hale as the club's acting bench coach. Mark Kotsay, who had been serving as the club's bench coach, has taken a leave of absence.
Scarsone had been serving as a traveling instructor with the A's after rising through the Oakland system as a minor league manager. Prior to being named to his current position, he led A's affiliates in Single-A Kane County (2009), Single-A Stockton (2010), Double-A Midland (2011-12), and the A's top affiliate in Sacramento (2013-14) and Nashville (2015-16). Scarsone was named Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year last season after leading the Sounds to a league-best 83-59 record.
Earlier today, Garvin Alston was named the club's bullpen coach, filling the vacancy left by Scott Emerson's promotion to pitching coach on June 15.
