Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisaíl García has been named to the American League All-Star Team, his first career selection. García was selected to the team via the AL player vote.
García, 25, is hitting .318 (92-289) with 17 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 51 RBI, 40 runs scored, 13 walks, a .362 on-base and .512 slugging percentage over 75 games this season, his fifth with the White Sox. Entering today's games, he ranks among the AL leaders in three-hit games (2nd, 11), multihit games (T3rd, 29), average (5th, .318) and hits (T8th, 92).
García is the first White Sox outfielder to the make the All-Star Team since Carlos Quentin in 2011, and the first native of Venezuela since Magglio Ordonez in 2003. He joins Jose Quintana (2016), Alexei Ramirez (2014) and Jose Abreu (2014) as recent first-time All Stars with Chicago. The last position player selected as the White Sox only representative was Ordonez in 2001.
White Sox minor leaguers Zack Collins (U.S. Team), Michael Kopech (U.S. Team) and Yoan Moncada (World Team) will represent the organization in next Sunday's All-Star Futures Game. The Midsummer Classic will take place on Tuesday, July 11 at Marlins Park in Miami.
