The Washington Nationals returned from rehab assignment and reinstated outfielder Chris Heisey from the 10-day disabled list on Friday, and placed outfielder Michael A. Taylor on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain. Nationals President of Baseball Operations & General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Heisey, 32, returns to the Nationals after missing 40 games with a right biceps rupture. The veteran outfielder played in five games with Triple-A Syracuse on rehab assignment, hitting .295 (5-for-17) with two doubles, one home run, and three RBI.
In 28 games at the Major League level this season, Heisey is 6-for-47 (.128) with one double, one home run, three walks, three RBI, and five runs scored. Since joining the Nationals as a non-roster invite to 2016 Nationals spring training, Heisey is 36-for-186 (.194) with four doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, 16 walks, 20 RBI, and 23 runs scored.
Taylor, has hit .295 with a .339 on-base percentage and a .550 slugging percentage in 59 games since taking over the everyday center field role for an injured Adam Eaton. In that span, Taylor has clubbed 16 doubles, two triples, and 12 homers, walked 15 times, driven in 34 runs, and scored 39 while stealing 10 bases.
His 30 extra-base hits over this stretch are tied for seventh in the National League and his .550 slugging percentage was good for 12th. This is the first stint on the disabled list of Taylor's young career.
