Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) Midwest Scouting Supervisor Steve McAllister will be inducted into the Killebrew Root Beer Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame today at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minn. He will be the fourth D-backs representative to receive the honor in the last 5 years, joining former D-backs Special Assistant to Baseball Operations Mike Russell (2013), current Area Scout Luke Wrenn (2015) and current Special Assistant to the General Manager Tim Wilken (2016).
The Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame honor is bestowed upon scouts who are at the foundation of player development and recognizes their tireless work ethic and contributions to the game of baseball. Each inductee is commemorated with a bronze plaque on the Scout's Wall at CHS Stadium.
McAllister, 57, is in his 17th year with the D-backs and ninth in his current role. He has been responsible for a number of players signed and crosschecked, including: Paul Goldschmidt, Max Scherzer, Micah Owings, Brett Anderson, Jarrod Parker, AJ Pollock, Wade Miley and Archie Bradley. In 2012, he received the D-backs' Roland Hemond Award for Scout of the Year and was elected to the Midwest Professional Baseball Scouts Association Hall of Fame.
The Chillicothe, Ill., native joined the D-backs' organization in 2001 as a full-time scout in the Midwest Region, and later served as the Central Supervisor from 2005-08 before taking on his current role in 2009. He is in his 30th season as a scout, beginning his career with the Milwaukee Brewers (1987-91), before moving on to the California Angels (1992-93) and Boston Red Sox (1994-2000).
He played parts of 6 Minor League seasons in the Houston Astros (1981-83) and Pittsburgh Pirates' (1984-86) systems. McAllister was selected in the fifth round of the 1981 draft out of Bradley University, where he was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985.
He and his wife, Jeannine, have 1 son, Zach, who has pitched for the Cleveland Indians for 7 seasons, including 3 games in the 2016 Postseason, with 2 appearances in the World Series vs. Chicago Cubs.
