The Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals are competing on the field, and the teams' fan bases now are competing off the field in this year's Step Up to the Plate campaign.
The Indians, in conjunction campaign spokesman Andrew Miller and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, are competing with the Royals and the Harvesters Community Food Network of Kansas City to see which team's fan base can raise the most money to fight hunger in each team's respective community.
Fans can donate at www.StepUpToThePlate.today, through Aug. 28; for every $1 donated by Tribe fans, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank can provide food for four people.
Indians fans also can donate at the Food Bank's concourse table at Progressive Field during the Tribe's series against the Royals Aug. 25-27. Any fan who donates $20 at that table will receive an autographed picture of a Tribe player (while supplies last).
Additionally, fans can bring non-perishable items to Progressive Field next weekend and drop them in marked bins outside the gates; the Progressive Field Team Shop also will allow fans to round up their purchases to benefit the Step Up To The Plate campaign directly.
