The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2017 Major League roster:
Merritt, 25, has spent most of the season in AAA Columbus, posting a mark of 10-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 19 games/18 starts (116.0IP, 116H, 39ER, 25BB, 85SO, .263 avg). He is currently 6th in the International League in ERA and tied for 7th in wins and over his last 7 starts since June 24 he is 4-0 with a 1.45 ERA (43.1IP, 34H, 7ER, 3BB, 29SO). Today marks his sixth stint with Cleveland this year (June 17, July 1, July 17-21, Aug. 17 & 25). He picked up his first win of the season in his last start for Cleveland on August 25 vs. Kansas City, throwing a career-high 6.2 shutout innings (7H, 1BB, 3SO). He has posted a mark of 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA in 4 games/3 starts for Cleveland this year (15.1IP, 21H, 5R/3ER). He is starting game 2 of today's doubleheader in Yankee Stadium.
Armstrong begins his seventh stint with Cleveland in 2017, posting a relief mark of 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA over 19 outings (22.1IP, 22H, 12ER, 9BB, 19SO, .244 avg). Around his time in Cleveland he has posted a record of 1-1 with 10 saves and a 2.86 ERA in 27 relief appearances for AAA Columbus (28.1IP, 26H, 9R/ER, 11BB, 35SO, .241 avg).
