September 12th, 2017

To commemorate the team's 50th anniversary of its first season in Oakland, the Oakland A's will open the 2018 season with two full days of festivities, beginning with a rare 1:05 p.m. "Opening Day" game against the Los Angeles Angels on March 29, 2018. The following evening, the A's will pay homage to their rich Oakland history prior to their 7:05 p.m. "Opening Night" game, as they honor the 50 greatest players ever to don the Oakland A's uniform.
On April 17, 2018 - exactly 50 years after the A's inaugural game at the Coliseum - the year-long anniversary celebration continues with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Chicago White Sox that is completely free for all fans. This is thought to be one of the first completely free standalone games in MLB history.
The "Opening Day" matinee on March 29 will mark just the second time in the last 41 years the A's have played a day game for their home opener and the first since 1994. The four-game set with the Angels begins the A's 81-game home slate, which includes 10 home matchups against the National League West's Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres. As part of interleague play, the A's will also travel to Colorado, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
The A's will be at home for four of the summer's most popular holidays - Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day - and will host seven postgame fireworks shows: Friday, May 25; Friday, June 15; Tuesday, July 3; Friday, July 20; Saturday, Aug. 4; Saturday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 22. The complete 2018 promotional calendar, including more details regarding 50th anniversary celebrations and the April 17 free game, will be announced in early 2018.
