BALTIMORE -- In honor of Mother's Day, with a special emphasis on Major League Baseball's efforts in the fight against breast cancer, several A's players donned pink gear during Sunday's 11-3 loss to the Orioles.
As a league-wide initiative, the A's donned special uniforms and caps that incorporated pink into their regular logos. They also wore pink wristbands and cleats and, for the 11th consecutive season, many used pink bats.
In partnership with Louisville Slugger, MLB created the "Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer" initiative in 2006. Since that time, more than $1 million for breast cancer charities has been raised. As in years past, the game-used bats will be auctioned.
Authentic game-used Louisville Slugger pink bats and other gear from Mother's Day games will be auctioned exclusively at MLB.com, with proceeds benefiting the fight against breast cancer.
