Hahn could return to A's rotation soon

Surging Pinder to see more playing time at second base

June 1st, 2017

CLEVELAND -- Rehabbing right-hander 's next start could be with the A's, who will soon decide whether to bring back the pitcher next week.
Hahn, on the mend from a right triceps strain, totaled 75 pitches in his first rehab start with Class A Advanced Stockton on Wednesday. He allowed two runs on four hits, including a home run, in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Hahn is eligible to return from the disabled list on Monday, but his turn in the rotation -- occupied by right-hander , who will start Saturday -- doesn't come up until June 9 vs. Tampa Bay. The A's have a scheduled off-day the day before, giving them flexibility with their rotation next week.
Hahn was pitching well before his injury, compiling a 3.81 ERA in nine games, eight of them starts.
Pinder to play more
A's rookie , who belted two home runs and was responsible for all of Oakland's offensive output in Wednesday's 3-1 victory in Cleveland, was back in the lineup Thursday, as promised.

Pinder started at second base Thursday in place of , who got the day off, and there's a good chance Pinder remains in the middle of the diamond when the club returns to Oakland on Friday for a six-game homestand.
Melvin suggested Pinder and veteran , who has been picking up most of the playing time at shortstop while rehabs his surgically repaired wrist, could share the position more. Pinder entered the day with seven home runs in just 26 games.
"He has earned some more at-bats, so whether we give Rosie a few more days off, that's an option," Melvin said. "When anybody has the type of production that he does right now … and the last couple games he's looked comfortable playing shortstop as well."
