OF David Murphy agrees to terms on one-year contract for 2012

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced this morning that outfielder David Murphy has agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2012 season. No further terms were disclosed.

With Murphy’s agreement, five unsigned Rangers remain eligible for salary arbitration: pitchers Mike Adams and Matt Harrison, catcher Mike Napoli, infielder Elvis Andrus, and outfielder Nelson Cruz.

Murphy batted .275 with 11 homers and 46 RBI in 120 games with the Rangers in 2011. He started 62 games in left, 27 in right, and 11 in center and was in the lineup for 29 of the season’s final 30 games. Beginning August 22, he hit .358 in his final 32 games.

Murphy has a career major league average of .280 with 58 homers and 258 RBI in 560 games with Boston and Texas. He was acquired from the Red Sox in July 2007.
