One bad inning haunts Porcello

BOSTON -- As the Red Sox's losing streak increased to seven games after a 4-2 loss to the Braves on Monday night at Fenway Park, Rick Porcello took his fifth straight loss.

The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The majority of the damage was done in the fourth inning when the Braves notched four singles, including three in a row, which scored three runs.

After Porcello surrendered a single to begin the seventh inning, he couldn't find the strike zone, surrendering a walk, throwing a wild pitch and hitting Andrelton Simmons.

As Farrell walked to the mound to get the ball from Porcello, the frustration could be seen all over his face.

"I was mad. I loaded the bases with one out. That's not good in any situation," Porcello said. "I was [ticked] off that we were in that spot to begin with. That was it."

While those two frames proved to be the difference in the game, Porcello did throw four perfect innings.

Farrell mentioned before Monday's contest that in order for Porcello to be successful, he needed to command his two-seam fastball. The right-hander thought he did that.

"I felt pretty good, honestly. I was sinking it well on the right-handed hitters, and some of the lefties called for a different approach, so we didn't use it as much against them," Porcello said. "All the pitches were working. It was just that one inning."
