BALTIMORE -- The Orioles brought back a familiar face Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Logan Verrett from the Mets in exchange for cash considerations.
"He's a really good, dependable pitcher. And he can do a variety of roles on a pitching staff -- starting, long relief, short relief," Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said of Verrett, the O's Rule 5 Draft pick before the 2015 season. "We liked him when he was here before; wish we had kept him here. Should've held on to him, but we are glad he's back."

Baltimore had two Rule 5 Draft players that spring and lost Verrett to the Rangers by trying to slip him through waivers at the end of Spring Training. The O's other Rule 5 Draft pick that year, Jason García, remained with the club and is in its Minor League system. Per the Rule 5 Draft rules, Verrett was returned to the Mets after he was designated for assignment by the Rangers in April and cleared waivers.
The 26-year-old Verrett went 3-8 with a 5.20 ERA in 35 games (12 starts) for the Mets in 2016. In 53 career games (16 starts), Verrett is 4-10 with a 4.65 ERA, allowing 72 earned runs over 139 1/3 innings.
"He's a good kid, a very competitive kid who can do a number of different jobs for a pitching staff," Duquette said. "Every pitching staff needs a pitcher like Logan Verrett."
