Orioles announce community events for December 13 and 16

Orioles and American Heart Association to co-host a Healthy Lifestyle youth clinic on Friday, December 13:

Continuing their partnership, the Baltimore Orioles and American Heart Association will co-host a Healthy Living/ Active Lifestyle themed clinic for 400 Baltimore City Recreation Center youth on Friday, December 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. The clinic will take place at the William Myers Recreation Center.

The event will feature Orioles staff including Orioles Strength and Conditioning Coach Joe Hogarty who will act as host with the Oriole Bird. The youth will rotate between four stations and receive instruction on baseball skills, stationary calisthenics, mobile drills and nutrition. Former Orioles outfielder Al Bumbry will also be on hand to help instruct. Each participant will receive an Orioles t-shirt and hat and a healthy snack and water courtesy of Coca-Cola.

The clinic is a part of Recess Baltimore, an eight-month after school program designed to empower children ages five through 14 in Baltimore to make healthy behavior changes and become leaders and advocates for healthy eating and physical activity. Recess Baltimore's mission is to reduce childhood obesity by engaging children in physical activity and educating them about healthy eating. Throughout the program year, Recess Baltimore Program Educators visit Baltimore City recreation centers to teach lessons and play games based on living a heart-healthy lifestyle.

The William Myers Recreation Center is located at 4300 West Bay Avenue in Brooklyn, Maryland. 

 

35th Annual Orioles Reach Holiday Party for Kids to be held next Monday, December 16

Current and former Orioles will host 80 kindergarten through fifth grade students from Alexander Hamilton Elementary School in Baltimore as part of the 35th Annual OriolesREACH Holiday Party for Kids next Monday, December 16, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Dave & Busters in the Arundel Mills Mall. Current Orioles Nick Markakis, Steve Johnson and Steve Clevenger will be joined by former O's Al Bumbry and Dave Johnson for the event. MASN broadcasterJ Jim Hunter will serve as emcee.

Players will serve lunch, play games with and sign autographs for the students. MASN's Tom Davis will play Santa Claus and deliver gifts donated by the Orioles to each child. Students will play for free in the arcade room courtesy of Dave and Busters.

Additionally, Nick and Christina Markakis made a financial contribution for the party and will provide a new baseball glove for each child.

Alexander Hamilton Elementary is located at 800 Poplar Grove Street in Baltimore. Students were selected to attend based on standards set by the school including perfect attendance or those who have met their Blue Ribbon attendance goal of at least 96% attendance. Each child was also required to be an Eagle Code Superstar or Star. This year's event marks the 35th year the Orioles have held a holiday party for children from economically disadvantaged areas in Baltimore. A different school is selected each year.
